SYTYCD Criticisms

How will voting work? I like that previously, until the Top Ten, the bottom
three couples got a chance to dance for their lives and the judges chose the
dancers to send home. They know what they are talking about - America
chooses the bottom three and the judges chose the dancers to oust

Stage: I miss the stairs on the old stage. I don’t like the lack of angles. The
stage is smaller, so there is less room to move.

How about introducing the All-Stars?? For people, like one of my good friends,
who have only been watching since season 5 or 6, they might not know
most of the All-Stars (since most of them are from seasons 3 and 4)! I would
have liked to see a background on the All-Stars anyways, to recap and learn
new things about them as well. And I would like to see the dancers chose
their All-Star out of a hat as usual so we can see their reaction to their style.

I’m not a fan of the live performance show. The show looks exactly the same
as before, except we are missing a major part. When the choreographers
reference a specific move (the stretch of a leg or a facial expression) the
producers can’t edit in that specific part for us to watch again, so we have
to rewind and find it ourselves. I enjoy seeing the part the judges are
referencing as they are saying it. For example, when the judges were
referencing Kent’s facial expressions, I would have liked to see it played
back again.

I LOVE seeing my favorite All-Stars back on the show, like Courtney and
Pasha, but the All-Stars are there for no reason but to be a partner in the
style they succeed in. Because they are so good, and the Top 11 will be
paired with someone who dances in their own style EVERY week, it doesn’t
really give the Top 11 dancer a chance to get better. Because the All-Star
isn’t there to choreograph or work with the Top 11 to make them better, I
feel like they are dead-air and not really giving anything back to the show.
The judges are judging the dancers SO much harder this season because
they are watching professionals as well. For example, Alexie Agdeppa? She
was adorable and her performance was great, but BECAUSE she was
partnered with a genius in his field, Twitch, she didn’t look nearly as good
as she would have if she had been with, say, Kent Boyd.

Since every week, the Top 11 is paired with an All-Star, doing the All-Star’s
style, the All-Star is making the Top 11 dancer look bad. Unlike Dancing
with the Stars, the “pro” is not there to make the dancer look good. On past
seasons, the dancers were learning the style together and working with
each other to make the routine better. This season, the Top 11 dancers are
almost alone in learning the style and routine. The All-Stars are doing their
own style EVERY week, so the Top 11 dancer does not get a chance to be
good on their own, let alone ever try to outshine their partner.

Next season, PERHAPS, a Top ___ dancer should be paired with an All-Star for
the season, until Top 5 maybe? That way, the All-Star isn’t doing their style
either, but the audience still gets to watch their favorites...
