Snoopy. He is a Beagle(Darwin=HMS Beagle).His novels start with “It was a dark & stormy nigjht..” , a line borrowed from ‘Paul Clifford’.He is a WWI flying Ace(Adolphe Pigoud, the first Ace) and his archenemy is ‘Red Baron’ Manfred Van Richtofen. He is also the first dog to fly across Atlantic solo ( spoof of Charles Lindbergh). Insignia of 20th tactical Air Support Squadron of USAF which features Snoopy.
