I would like to share what I wrote on 28th December 2008 in response to debate on NDTV "Why War is not an option?"

Dear Ms.Dutt,

Are we nation of dimwits? Why are we still discussing what needs to be done ? Why is it that we are seeking to impose self restraint? Why did we castigate our politicians and the system so severely and continue to do so? Why are we still arguing within ourselves for a response that is predicated by the events of 26/11 and the inactivity from an ostensibly friendly neighbour to act upon our requests?

I for one would never subscribe to the policy, “if rape is imminent lie back and enjoy it.”

Let us cut the mushy stuff and un clutter our heads and move forward decisively. The option of war has to be exercised now, for should we choose to delay it we are doomed to suffer from terror attacks of higher intensity and greater in frequency, which is ultimately going to lead to a war. This you can cast in stone for the times immemorial.

Pakistan’s raison de etre is destruction and dismembering India, it is an all pervasive and inclusive sentiment.

We may not be able to bring home the wanted criminals by waging a war, for sure you cannot deny that we are capable of inflicting a cost ever so sever upon the supporters and sponsors of terror.

We need to degrade the capabilities of the sponsors to such an extent that it leaves them enfeebled and the civil society if there is one can then take over, and decide for itself the destiny of the nation they inhabit. There are very ominous signs that this country is well and truly on the path to radicalization which would require a far large and strenuous effort on our part to combat at a latter date.

We will not be able to escape the effects of the radicalization in our neighborhood.

The onus is not on us to enable any type of governance in another country even if it is by passive means. The people of that country are the sole arbiters of the destiny of that nation.

Lets get real and protect ourselves with some proactive steps. This is not the time to vacillate and ponder on the costs involved, higher costs we would pay for our inaction are well and truly known to us.
