Is war with Pakistan a viable option?
“Posted by IBNLive at 01:36 PM, Dec 24, 2008 | Updated at 10:42 AM, Dec 26, 2008 in India Pakistan's flip-flop act over the nationality of its citizen Ajmal Kasab, the lone terrorist to be captured from the Mumbai attacks, has once again raised the question of its seriousness in dealing with terror. India believes that Pakistan has whipped up a war hysteria in order to divert international attention and escape accountability for the Mumbai carnage. Many, in India, however, feel that a war with Pakistan is what is needed to send across a strong message to Pakistan that it's high time it stops sponsoring terrorism on Indian soil. Is war a viable option? Can India afford a war at this point?”

My take on this as published on 27th Dec 2008 is:

Let us discuss the viability or otherwise at a later stage.

We first need to recognise and accept the ground situation.

1. Terrorism is here to stay.
2. Terrorism is in our neighborhood.
3. Terrorist will continue to target India.
4. Terrorism is a policy tool of Pakistan.
5. Terrorism has seamless support of Pakistan.
6. This was not the last terror strike on India.
7. Intensity and frequency will increase rapidly if not
Challenged by India right now.
8. Terrorism is to destroy the society and the economic status
Of India.
9. Terrorism will always have human life as a cost.
etc etc.

If we agree on the above stated points then we would also agree the strength of a nation or an individual is not measured by it ability to sustain a body blow, rather by the response and retribution that is visited upon the opponent.

I am a peacenik just as the vast majority of Indians. Does this make me/us weak? Most definitely not!

How does then one project the inherent strength of the nation and the vast majority. Not by wailing for those who have fallen as victims to the bullets of the terrorist or aimlessly flailing our arms and legs.

The cost of misadventure is increased manifold on the sympathizer and sponsors of terror. The hand that pulls the trigger is the visible one; we need to severe the hand that feeds this fiend who wreaks havoc on us physically and mentally.

Yes their will a loss of human lives incase of a conflict, it is also a fact that a large number of machines of war will also be destroyed. Will this not degrade the ability of supporters and sponsors of terror to continue with their designs?

If we want peace then we would need to wage a war this time round this is inevitable, the delay would only add to the magnitude and intensity of the war.

India must act now! Otherwise be condemned to suffer from perennial terror strike.

Hope this would have set to rest once and for all the question?

Is war with Pakistan a viable option?
