Sam is never going to be able to tell anyone what this movie is about. He hasn't got a clue what is happening onscreen. The words are coming out of the speakers and maybe they're going into his ears, but he doesn't know what they mean. He can't spare the brain cells.

Not when his arm is around Gabriel, fingers twitching just slightly dangling from Gabriel's shoulder. Beneath him, Gabriel is warm, furnace-warm, and a bit squirmy. Sam wants to press his fingers into Gabriel's chest, pushing him into stillness, but he's nervous, and he doesn't want to do anything wrong. His heart is riding high and raucous in his throat.

Gabriel leans forward to grab a pack of Twizzlers. Sam stops breathing. What if Gabriel is pulling away because he's uncomfortable, or because he wants Sam to stop, or give him some space? What if this is a rejection, or a subtle hint that Sam doesn't understand?

But then Gabriel grabs his hand and pulls it down over his shoulder, and he leans a little closer, head touching Sam's chest, and oh God so warm. Sam wants a million things, and he's afraid of a million things. His back is stiff.

The smell of strawberries is overwhelming. Sam's getting hungry. "Hey," he whispers, "can I have one?"

"Hmm?" Gabriel's voice is languid, almost lazy. Oh, God, is he bored? "Oh, yeah, sure." His hand flips up to hand a Twizzler to Sam.

Sam chews on it thoughtfully. Why is he so panicked? This is Gabriel. This is the guy who's been his best friend for months now. They've never had trouble talking. By all rights, he should be perfectly comfortable. So what the hell is his problem?

The package of candy crackles again. "You want another?"

Sam's not done with his first one, and he's about to say so when he looks down and sees Gabriel looking up at him, a Twizzler sticking out from between his teeth.

Oh. OH.

Sam nibbles on the end of it and in his peripheral vision he can see the smile fade from Gabriel's face, see his eyelids droop. For an instant of synchronicity, he feels Gabriel's nervousness mirroring his own, and it gives him a surge of confidence.

He plucks the candy from Gabriel's mouth and kisses him.

Oh God. Sam's whole body lights up. Gabriel's mouth is warm and eager under his, and he swears he hears a bit of a groan. The Twizzler in his hand drops to the ground, and that hand is too sticky-sweet-wet to go anywhere, so it just hovers in midair and trembles as the kiss goes on.

Someone kicks the back of Sam's seat, maybe-possibly on purpose, and he ends the kiss, drawing back to look at Gabriel in the dimness. Gabriel's eyes are downcast, his lips are smiling and glistening, and Sam suspects he may be blushing.

"We need to do more of that," he says impulsively.

Gabriel gives him a wary look. He is as cautious now as Sam is reckless. But he answers, "Yeah, I'm down for that."

He leans against Sam again, pulling down Sam's palm to lick the sticky candy taste from it. Sam shudders hard, but when he's clean he loops both his arms around Gabriel and they watch the rest of the movie in comfortable silence.
