Gabriel grins at him as he rolls up to the cafeteria at three-thirty. At this point Sam has literally no idea what to expect. It could be anything, and the one thing it's certain not to be is something Sam suspects in advance.

Without a word, Gabriel grabs his arm and pulls him right back out the cafeteria doors. Sam sputters a bit but about-faces and follows Gabriel down the hall, past the art room, and through a thick green door that Sam's sure he's never seen used before.

He steps forward into dusty wood planks, drapes of muslin that are no discernible color, and mechanisms he doesn't immediately recognize. To his left, an overgrown cardboard daisy smiles at him in colors that were once gaudy but have faded with time and dust. It's not until Sam follows the cables leading straight up from odd mechanism to ceiling, though, that he realizes where he is.

Gabriel prances out to center stage after the door is closed behind them. He sings a few loud, raucous notes to the nonexistent audience and shouts over his shoulder into the wing where Sam is standing. "Isn't it great?"

"It's the auditorium," Sam says, gingerly stepping into view of the empty chairs as though afraid of getting booed.

"I know!"

Sam looks at him, takes in the glowing face. "And?"

Gabriel just grins harder. "What do you see?"

Sam peers out. There's a piano and a few discarded music stands, but other than that... "Nothing."

"Exactly." And Gabriel's grabbing his waist, pulling him in and pecking him on the lips. "Nobody uses this place when there isn't a play. It's completely empty. Even the band doesn't practice in here." He glows up into Sam's face. "It's all ours."

Sam stares at him, blank and confused, for a moment. Then he gets it.

He tugs Gabriel's head back and kisses him hard; Gabriel makes a sound of surrender that's so satisfying; their mouths open to each other and the dizzying rush of sensation makes Sam's knees buckle. Somehow or other they're melting to the floor, Gabriel's hands cinched tight to his waist. One devilish hand is starting to sneak under Sam's shirt.

"Wow, Sam," Gabriel murmurs in his ear as Sam licks along his jaw. "On stage, no less. I had no idea you were such an exhibitionist."

Sam raises his head to look out at the rows of seats. "Maybe we should move this somewhere else?"

Gabriel blows air through his lips derisively. "What's life without a little danger," he says, and takes advantage of Sam's craned neck to sink his lips into it.

The cry Sam lets out is embarrassing. He has never felt anything that feels like Gabriel's lips on his neck. He had no idea he was so sensitive there. He hangs on to Gabriel for dear life as giant blossoms of feeling open up inside him. He's more than turned on; he's blown away.

"Sam," Gabriel whispers in his ear. "I like it in here. I like the smell, I like the memories. I think I'm gonna come here after school most days, do my homework here and take the late bus home. Anytime you want to come join me..." He presses suddenly soft, almost tentative lips to Sam's. "This could be our place."

"Our place," Sam echoes. "I think I like that idea."

He more than likes it. He doesn't know how he's ever lived without it. Kind of like Gabriel, in that way.
