Saints welcome 100 Local Boy Scouts at Team Facility today...
Activity was in abundance today at the Saints’ training facility in Metairie as the club hosted over 100 local Boy Scouts this morning, an event which will precede the team’s afternoon session with roughly the same amount of scouts.
Saints Owner Tom Benson, a long-time supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, was on hand to meet and greet the Scouts. Benson was asked by one of the Boy Scouts’ parents if they would get to watch the Saints play in 2011. The smiling Benson replied, “There’s no doubt in my mind, young man. We’re out here working this weekend and you can see that we’re open for business and at work. We’re getting ready for the season. I’m confident that there will be Saints’ football.”
The visit by the Boy Scouts is an annual tradition with the Saints. Each year hundreds of Boy Scouts arrive for a tour of the team’s training facility and share the opportunity to work out in the same facility that the Saints’ players use during the season and training camp. “This is dream come true,” said one of the Boy Scouts. “We watch the news every day to see what the team is doing and we see the players and coaches on these fields and in the locker room. To get an opportunity to see where they work and what their facilities are like is an unreal experience.”
The Saints' community relations department opened the doors to the Saints' practice facility bright and early this morning for Boy Scout Day with the Saints, as the scouts and their parents began arriving before 8 a.m.
“This is an opportunity for these young men and their families to come out and see where the Saints’ practice and prepare,” said Elicia Sheridan-Broussard, the team’s assistant community relations director. “They really enjoy the tour and the chance to get out on the fields and run around and enjoy the different stations and events we have planned for them. It’s a tradition and something we really look forward to hosting each season. We’ll keep them coming back every year. It’s something we mark on the calendars a year or more in advance.”
