ALLEGED CRAIGSLIST KILLER TO BE TRIED AS AN ADULT
16 year old Brogan Rafferty, will face trial as an adult. Rafferty stands accused of killing one and trying to kill another with the assistance of a Craigslist ad.
Rafferty is accused of working with 52 year old Richard Beasley to lure David Pauley of Norfolk, Virginia and killing the man. The pair also worked to lure at least one other man, Scott Davis, from South Carolina, and attempting to kill him. Davis, however, was able to escape into the woods and hide until it became dark, after being shot in the arm. The ad was an offer for a job on a fake cattle ranch. When the men arrived, they were robbed, and then shot.
The FBI participated in the investigation, questioning Rafferty and arresting him in November. Pauley’s body was discovered on property owned by a coal company. Davis, was shot, but was able to escape, a few days prior to the arrest of Rafferty.
Timothy Kern, 47, of Massillon, was found Nov. 29 in a shallow grave near an Akron-area shopping mall. He had been shot in the head. Authorities believe the body of Ralph Geiger, 55, of Akron, found Nov. 29 in Noble County, is also linked to the scheme. He died Aug. 9 of a gunshot wound to the head. – Mark Zinni, Fox 8 News Cleveland
During a hearing on Thursday December 15, in front of Judge John Nau of Noble County Juvenile Court, it was decided that there was sufficient evidence to warrant the case being transferred to the adult court.
“Since the alleged acts in this matter are category-one offenses. The court is gonna find there is probable cause to believe the juvenile committed the acts as alleged in the complaint.” – Judge John Nau of Noble County Juvenile Court
Formal charges in the adult court system are expected to be filed later this month. Rafferty’s bond is set at $1 million. Reports indicate that Beasley is being held on unrelated charges stemming from burglary and prostitution.
