It is imperative that legislative attempts to end piracy are not only actually technically effective, but also consider the many ways in which cultural shifts drive the economic engine of America.[0] SOPA and PIPA are two bills that are neither effective (in fact, they actively undermine the security of Internet users and businesses)[1] nor do they respect American ideals of free expression.[2] These ideals underpin our values of liberty and the inalienable right to the pursuit of happiness for every person.

These are values our country's founders carefully enshrined in the Constitution of the United States of America. SOPA and PIPA eviscerate these ideals in a foolhardy attempt to pander to an untenable status-quo.[3]

I urge you to loudly oppose SOPA and PIPA. As a voting constituent, I rely on you to protect my access to vital information, much of which comes from sources who would likely experience unnecessary obstacles in the form of prejudiced legal and political hardship if SOPA and PIPA are enacted. Nevertheless, these bill's technical ineffectiveness means that they would not actually stop pirates, illegal downloaders, or other criminals.[4]

Thank you for taking the time educate yourself on the issues at stake in this debate and for your strong vote against censorship in all its many technical, social, and political manifestations.[5]
