Interview with Adam Lambert in MTV3/Helmi, 06/08/12

This is what attracted Adam Lambert to Sauli – new album inspired by love

Adam Lambert reveals to Helmi that falling in love with Sauli Koskinen inspired him in the writing of his new album, Trespassing. But what was it about the Finnish Big Brother winner that the American musician first fell in love with?

American singer Adam Lambert, 30, tells Helmi all about his new album and the love that inspired it.

According to Adam, Trespassing, which debuted at number 2 on the official Finnish album chart, is fierce and instinctive, but with a touch of funk. He is delighted at the success his new creation is enjoying.

- I'm happy that Finns like my new album! Adam rejoices.

- Over the past couple of years and with this album in particular, I've found my new sound, which I think is really pure me. Of course artists like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince and George Michael, whose music I listened to when I was growing up in the '90s, have influenced me, so you can probably recognize their legacy in my newest album.

Themes of love and heartbreak

Adam reveals that while many things inspired him in the making of the album, the most important one is love.

- Love was a central inspiration. That's what the album is about. I also processed heartbreak and insecurity through the album. I've always been kind of an outsider, but I'm proud of it. It gives me strength and self-confidence. So there were a lot of themes on the album.

The American singer has been in a relationship with Finnish Sauli Koskinen, 27, for two years. Adam says the relationship is doing well and has changed him.

- Love has given me confidence and security in my professional as life as well, and it inspires me in everything I do.

This is what Adam fell in love with

Adam and Sauli, whom we know from Big Brother Finland, met in Helsinki in 2010, and quickly fell in love.

- There are so many different things about Sauli that I fell in love with, but above all he's so good-looking! He's also funny and honest, Adam says, moved.

The Los Angeles based couple doesn't let cultural differences interfere in their relationship.

- Our relationship doesn't suffer from the fact that we're from different countries. We've learned to focus on what we have in common, not the things that differentiate us.

- We have similar interesting experiences of fame and being on tv. Sauli was on Big Brother, I was on American Idol. We both have had to get used to the idea that everybody recognizes our face. That brings us together.
