This is what I ACTUALLY said to TMZ about marijuana legalization in Colorado:

I think the legislation passed in Colorado to legalize the recreational use of marijuana in the recent election represents wonderful progress in our state, and in our country. I think it sets a great example for the rest of the states, and I hope to see them pass similar legislation in the near future.

I don't personally use marijuana, and I haven't for many years, but I have always supported the legalization of the drug. I believe that in the big picture, marijuana causes vastly less social problems than alcohol, and we should consider it to be a less socially threatening drug than alcohol. I think that the revenue streams generated from the legalized sale of marijuana will be very helpful to our state of Colorado. If taxed similarly to alcohol and tobacco, states could stand to gain a lot of capital, and remedy many budget stresses.

I would hope that marijuana legalization (and bringing the marijuana trade "above ground") will also alleviate stresses on jails, where people may have been incarcerated for marijuana possession Additionally I hope it improves the safety of the drug and it's usage by regulating it's quality, make-up and distribution.

Colorado in an incredibly beautiful state. Traditionally, it has also been a state wrought with ideological contradictions. With the conservative stronghold of Colorado Springs in the south, and the liberal Mecca of Boulder (my hometown) just a couple of hours north, our state has been divided politically for many years. In the past 8 years, I have been very encouraged by the progress of our state. I am proud that we contributed our presidential electoral votes to Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012. I am proud that we elected two Democratic US senators who are progressive and forward-thinking.

On the issue of marijuana legalization, I am proud that Colorado can stand as an example for other states to follow.

Thank you,
