Personally, we all have to learn anger management. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "The strong is not the one who overcomes the people by his strength, but the one who controls himself while in anger.”

Scientifically, anger is considered a completely normal and healthy human emotion but it can vary in intensity from mild irritation to intense fury and rage. The latter can be destructive. Psychologists have studied people who get angry very easily and have suggested various methodologies for anger management.

On one occasion, the Prophet (pbuh) mentioned, "Some are quick to get angry & quick to cool down, one character making up for the other; some get angry slowly and take as much time to cool down, one character making up for the other; but the best of you are those who are slow to get angry and quick to cool down, and the worst of you are those who are quick to get angry and slow to cool down."

It was further elaborated by Allah's Messenger (pbuh), "If one of you becomes angry while standing he should sit down. If the anger leaves him, well and good; otherwise he should lie down"

Performing ablution is another method of anger management. The Prophet (pbuh) said: "Anger comes from the devil, the devil was created of fire, and fire is extinguished only with water; so when any of you is angry, he should perform ablution"

Psychotherapists adopt three approaches - expressing, suppressing and calming - for anger management. Either express the anger in an assertive manner, or suppress and redirect it to a positive action or calm down. It has been noticed that in each approach some sort of problems could be created if it is not handled the way a therapist wishes.
