Sylven Landesberg,UVA BB, http://cli.gs/q806Pd post drew a lot of interest. @DraftExpress RT was the main reason. Based on Sylven's observations & discussions, & after playing in the summer with NBA players, he felt that "it's a little more tougher to score in the college level than on the NBA level."

I chastised Sylven for this naive view of the NBA and said that he's in for a shock. Upon further thought, I understand the premise behind his statement. What he's really saying is that he didn't have enough support at UVA, and because of the talent level in the NBA, he will have more room to operate because the defense will have to honor the talents of the other players on the floor with him.

The NBA & College are very different games. However, Sylven should not confuse playing pick-up, or summer league ball with what is going to go down in the NBA. The NBA is a great defensive league. You have to be a very special talent to be a consistent scorer at the NBA level. Contrary to Sylven's beliefs, help defense is a staple of the NBA game. What Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James do on a nightly basis is a result of their unique talents and skills, not an indictment of the defensive schemes that are employed to stop them.

If Sylven is not the focal point of an offense. He may find it easier to score in the NBA, because he will become a "parasite," a player who benefits from the talents of another player.

I would love for a reporter to ask Sylven in a couple of years if it's easier to score at the NBA level. As I always like to say, "We'll see" or in Sylven's case, He'll see. Don't get me started about defense in the playoffs. That's another story for another day.

Good luck Sylven and think before you speak!
