At Benetton Group everyone is deeply shocked by the dramatic accident that took place in Dhaka, Bangladesh. We would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the collapse of the Rana Plaza building.
As a company, we are working to strengthen the measures and initiatives already in place in the markets in which we operate. Our objective is to contribute to a significant and lasting improvement in workers' conditions and the environment in which they operate. At the same time, we are also in the process of evaluating, in cooperation with global non-profit organisations, how to support further initiatives specifically designed for Bangladesh.
Benetton Group strongly reiterates that none of the manufacturers housed in the collapsed building is a supplier to any of our Group’s brands. We have since established that one of our suppliers had occasionally subcontracted orders to one of these Dhaka-based manufacturers. Prior to the accident, that manufacturer had already been permanently removed from the list of potential direct or indirect suppliers. In fact, it had come to light that it no longer met the stringent standards that would have made it elegible to even potentially work for us.
