I recently have gotten a slew of messages regarding Spencer's comments on Camera 1 @ 7:06pm on August 5, 2013. I realize that I sent a tweet out earlier that makes it seem like I was defending Spencer's comments. Let me clear that up now: I don't support what he said in any way. However, I do have a few things to say about the whole controversy:

1. Spencer was clearly being facetious -- Yes, I'm aware that this a topic that should never be joked about. Boycotting the show because some random guy has a shitty sense of humor, or trying to get him kicked off the show entirely is probably not for the better.

2. Spencer was clearly being facetious -- I'm repeating this point because it seems pretty clear that a lot of people are taking the fact that he described the scenario "in detail" as some sort of pseudo-evidence that he's seen it. I don't think there's anything that was said that implies he's knows anything about this subject. Granted, I'm not qualified. I don't watch it, and for that matter, anybody that claims to have never seen it shouldn't be making any judgments of how "accurate" his description is. How would you know he's right if that's the case? Also, I noticed that a lot of "telephone game" is happening regarding these comments. Various posters are discussing the incident without referencing that it was clearly a (bad) joke, which allows for it to mutate into something that it doesn't mean.

3. Spencer is aware that this is a taboo subject -- The whole joke involved picking up McCrae's microphone and speaking into it to make it look as if McCrae was earnestly talking about watching this stuff.

4. I think a lot of people are making a big deal about this because Spencer is an overweight, middle-aged man. I can't imagine that if some young, attractive person made these jokes that we'd be accusing them of being a pedophile.

Case in point: I think Big Brother is a great show. I'd hate to see a lot of fans that like it as much as I do stop watching simply because some yokel made a tasteless joke. I'd also hate to see said yokel's life destroyed by rumors of sexual deviancy simply because of this tasteless joke.

I really hate "TwitLonger" because it defeats the purpose of Twitter, but I felt compelled to discuss this.
