More on Perris & Hailwood.... “We were best pals, he was nine years younger than me and he was like my younger brother. We used to go flying together a lot. We both flew for fun – single prop-planes – we didn’t really use our planes to fly to races. This is Biggin Hill in the mid-1960s. Mike would come and stay with us in Beckenham, just to get away from it all. We had built this fabulous train set in the spare bedroom and he’d hide away and play with that. After he stopped racing bikes we went into business together in South Africa. We started building houses near Durban but it didn’t work out.”
