Following is the news release by Thai Lawyers for Human Rights (TLHR)

Today, 28 May 2014 a lawyer group launched “Thai Lawyers for Human Rights” –TLHR in order to provide legal advice in order to increase legal and human rights knowledge including the understanding of new orders under the declaration of martial law throughout the country.

The NCPO has issued continuously a numbers of orders, regulations including list of summoned persons that need to report themselves at designated time and place. Moreover, there are a number of persons who deprived of liberty by arresting, searching and detention under the martial law. This numerous orders and operation has caused confusion, misunderstanding, misinterpretation by ordinary persons who might not understand thoroughly their human rights and complicated legal procedures under the martial law and new orders of the NCPO.

In order to ease the situation, a group of Thai lawyers joined hand to open a hotline and email to receive a primary complaints and answering questions from those affected and ordinary population. The TLHR also intends to compile the cases to monitor the situation and trends. ​

TLHR will provide legal assistance through volunteers and lawyers including primary receiving complaints, enquiries, trial observation, fact finding. The objective is to increase the trust and confident of general population on the existing fair and accountable legal procedure under the martial law and new orders in order to maintain peace and reconciliation of the nation.
