I've got very absorbent bactericidal dressings - which I need - but the part which contacts the actual ulcer is sticky, which causes a lot of pain (bizarre design). So what I've done is cover the sticky pad with a single layer of sterile gauze.

That will stop it clinging to and dragging at the raw flesh but won't impede its absorbency. It should also be easy to remove.

Certainly, right now, it's painless, so that's an improvement. Post dressing change is always exceptionally painful but it's not now.
