Mandy, the worst thing you can do is sit and brood (voice of experience here, both as carer and victim), and I deal with that by writing for my blog.
And I also write stuff that's never published, because it's important to get the crap and the fear out of my head, and nail it to the page.
It helps me - might be worth a try.
