#whiteribbonday #notoviolence Strange state of affairs that an opera company refuses to program a piece because of its references to cigarettes, but doesn't really acknowledge the fact that the opera (and many others) seems to support the idea that the male protagonist can murder a woman who rejects him. Yes, I know that her murder isn't glorified, but it's there, and it is central to the plot. And, it is clear that the music and drama imply that he was "pushed" by Carmen's tempestuous and fiery nature. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-10-08/wa-opera-axes-carmen-over-smoking-themes/5798868
