This is a message to those in #GamerGate who have seen your movement be hijacked by extremists who have engaged in threats, harassment, and doxxed perceived ideological opponents. At this critical juncture, we must ask ourselves, what do we accomplish and what do we want to achieve?

If the goals of #GamerGate are sincere, and I believe they are, we need to acknowledge the cost and likelihood of achieving those goals. The inevitable consequences of continuing this cause are all counterproductive. That is not your fault, but it is the unfortunate reality that we face. This is a social movement not a restricted organization of representatives. As a result, we cannot remove extremists who use #GamerGate as their shield.

I for one, would rather ethical standards of games journalism remain unchanged than see one more person threatened, harassed, or doxxed.
