Interesting fact: 1/4th of the men who signed Texas' Declaration of Independence had lived in Texas for less than a year. Only 10 of the 60 men who signed the document had lived in the state for longer than 6 years. Many of the white dudes who moved to Texas were pissed that Mexico didn't allow slavery, although Mexico eventually allowed them to call their slaves to indentured servants, which is just a fancy word for slaves. One of the primary reasons Texas claimed its independence is because a bunch of these slave owners thought God told them they had a natural-born right to the land (i.e., Manifest Destiny). One of the states that borders Texas is in the process of making AP History illegal. Why? Because the largely white lawmakers believe AP History is RACIST. Happy Texas Independence! (Swim in the irony.)
