Aerial Dance

Jeremy took a deep breath back stage. His performance would begin in less than ten minutes. He had done this many times before, but it was still a dangerous act and if he didn't have his head in the game, he would fall to his death.

The audience sat with baited breath. This rather graceful performance was not particularly geared towards children, but rather the parents. They knew they were here for a show of aerial acrobatics and that flying dinosaurs were somehow involved. What they didn't know, was that the Pteranodons used in this act were of a special breed. Specifically bred for these shows, they were especially docile and more like 6 foot long fruit bats than their flying carnivore cousins. They were also trained to fly in one specific pattern that never changed from show to show. But like any wild animal, they could still be dangerous and they certainly looked the part.

An enthusiastic man announced the start of the show and pleasant ambient music began to play. One more deep breath, and Jeremy walked out on the stage. It was a massive enclosure in which the audience was separated by glass that was a little too clean. This was to protect them in the event of anything going wrong. There were no Pteranodons yet, only two elegant aerial silks hanging in the middle of the enclosure. He danced over to them and wrapped one tightly around his waist for safety. He then began to climb them, pulling his own weight until he was at least 10 feet in the air. Using the silks as an extension of his own body, he moved gracefully in the air in a sort of aerial dance. At this point, the audience got what they really came for. Jeremy heard the familiar rush of leathery Pteranodon wings as they flew, spiraling down from the ceiling where they had been released. He could feel the audience's tension despite the glass barrier. His dance in the sky continued with the two Pteranodons circling around him. Their names were Porridge and Noodle and his bond with them was probably as close as any man and dinosaur could be. The audience would let out a gasp here and there whenever one would fly especially close, but the climax was still to come. He began to use his weight to sway on the silks in a circular motion. Slowly, the circle became wider and wider as the Pteranodons circled beneath him. He allowed the silk length that was wrapped around him to unravel, even the end which was wrapped around his waste. The audience let out a loud gasp in unison, and even a few screams as he plummeted a few feet unprotected. He was caught by the leg by Noodle and even this action was graceful. Upside-down, he blew the audience a kiss as they erupted in cheers and clapping. Noodle circled close to the silks until he was able to grab on again, and then gently released him from her whittled down, dulled claws. They flew back up into the ceiling and he lowered himself to the ground where he took a bow and exited the stage. The dance was over.
