WHY JUST JIRO MANIO?

Award-winning child actor Jiro Manio, who is now a troubled young adult, is all over the news because of his rather weird antics at the Manila International Airport (I'll never call it NAIA) which earned the sympathy not only of his colleagues from show business but also from the general public. He was recently seen there roaming for food, clothing, and temporary shelter. It turned out that he was either high on drugs or mentally unstable (one famous director suggested that he should undergo psychiatric treatment). Or both.

It was reported that this Manio kid went into drug rehab, thus ruining what would have been a more successful showbiz career. He also has two kids at a very young age (he's only 23). There are now countless tweets and other social media comments from people who took pity on what has happened to him.

And that's what irritates me.

While Manio deserves all the sympathy in the world... why just him? He is not the only young adult in this country whose life was destroyed by drug abuse. Look around you: they're everywhere. In almost every street corner in our country's various urban jungles, you'll find them. Worse, many of them are even younger than Manio. And their lives are doubly miserable.

Have you ever thought of them? Have you ever tweeted or commented anything about them? Have you even showed a little concern for them the way you poured your online sympathy towards Manio?
