@AdamLambert: "I would love to sing with Beyoncé!" (EXCLUSIVE)

While he was in Paris to promote his new album, The Original High, Adam Lambert met Melty. Check out his exclusive interview.

The finalist of the eighth season of American Idol spoke to melty in an exclusive interview for the release of his new album, The Original High. You discovered him with Whataya Want From Me, his first single, the singer is now back with titles subtly mixing rock, which he has always loved, and electro sounds. At 33 years old, Adam grew up in Los Angeles but he was only dreaming of one thing: Broadway. Between his new album, his projects, his tour with the band Queen, the singer also reveals the music he likes, especially Years & Years - that we saw in Rock en Seine (they link here to another Melty article). He also tells us about his appearance in the series Pretty Little Liars ... Discover Adam Lambert’s interview on Melty!

Melty: Hi Adam! So, are you happy to be in Paris?
Adam Lambert, singer: Yes I love Paris! Unfortunately I never stay long.

Compared to Trespassing, in The Original High your last album, we feel a little bit more your rock side emerging, with real instruments, even if you kept a few electro parts. Did you want to go back to something more authentic?
Yes of course! Let's say that I really wanted this album to come from the heart, it's a real story of emotions. So it was important to have organic instruments like a piano, a guitar, which are the basic elements on these songs. The electro side rather allows me to build a mood, an atmosphere, to create space and texture to all of this. And I love this album because the voice is located exactly between those two elements, it’s the main instrument.

You left your label for this new album, why, and what did it change for you?
Ah it was just some creative disagreements. After Trespassing, they wanted me to do a cover album of new wave songs from the 80s. I thought about it and I said "no, I do not want to do that." Because I'm here to make new songs, MY songs. So I said, "Ok, Peace!" and I left.

In this album, you also have a duet with the singer Tove Lo, whom we love. How was it to work with her? Did you know her before?
No, I met her in Sweden while we were recording the album. In fact, I lived in Stockholm for two months to make this album. And she’s one of the first people I was presented there. I fell in love with his song Habits, it's so honest! As I am the same, I think that's why it worked between us. She's so nice, with a great sense of humor, that is easy to work with her. We discussed and she asked often the question of the fame and all the things that it implies, that's how came the song.

Ghost Town is the first single from your last album, The Original High. It was released in April, almost at the same time as Ghosttown (March 13) by Madonna, was it a coincidence? Were you aware of this song release by Madonna?
It was hilarious because we had already chosen the first single in October or November and then we sent the whole to the finale mix. And in December, I look at the tracklist on Itunes of the next Madonna’s album and there I see Ghosttown and I say "Whaaat?" For few seconds, I wondered if I had to change the single and I talked to my team and they told me "the song is so different, it's ok." So I was not very worried. But after, I saw that she had also chosen it as a single and they were released at the same time. It was funny !

In three albums, you had the opportunity to collaborate with Bruno Mars, Max Martin, Pharrell Williams, Dr. Luke, etc. Are there other artists with whom you would dream to collaborate?
I would like to work with Gorgon City or Duke Dumont and many other DJs. About other artists, for sure I would love to sing with Beyoncé. Pink too! She wrote Whataya Want From Me so I already had the chance to sing her songs but I would really like to have the opportunity to sing together because she’s really fantastic.

You were in January with Queen at the Zenith in Paris in front of a full-packed audience, how was it?
It was so cool, there was a great energy! And I think it is because of the shape of the Zenith. We used to play in more traditional venues but we found that the Zenith, his shape, was very special so the energy emanating from it was new for us. I already think I'm lucky because I love the French public, there is a sort of connection because I feel like we understand each other, that we are in phase.

It was only your second date in France, do you plan to come back soon?
Oh yes I would really love to! I haven’t anything planned yet unfortunately. I start my tour in January where I’ll go to Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Now we are trying to go to America, UK and Europe, but there is nothing decided yet.

Besides Queen, who else inspired you to do this job?
Actually, it happened by chapters. When I was a teenager, I listened to a lot of pop music, even a little hip-hop and rap. Moreover many of these artists of the late 90s were produced by Max Martin, it's funny. In my twenties, I loved the rock, then there was a period where I listened to neo soul only. I really work by phase. And now we can say that I listen to everything.

Is there a song or an artist you're listening in loop now?
There are some artists that I adore right now such as the Years & Years album.

There's a question I love asking in interviews: what did you want to do at 15 years old?
When I was 15, I wanted to be an actor in Broadway. In fact, when I was 9, my parents enrolled me in a theater group and I fell in love with musicals and I was doing a lot of them. It was a bit like my first contact with music.

So there is a series that our readers especially love: it’s Pretty Little Liars. You participated in the special Halloween episode of season 2. Tell us how it happened and how were you contacted?
I do not remember how it happened but it was super fun. Everyone told me "It's the Halloween episode! And you can dress up as a vampire! Yeah!" And as I love to dress up it was great. I was able to shoot a scene with Lucy Hale and everyone was very cool. Honestly, it was a great afternoon!

Do you have something to tell your French fans and all meltynautes?
Yes, I want to tell them that I really appreciate that they like my music. I really hope this is just the beginning and we can get to know a little more. I really want to come back more often because I love France and Paris.

So are you fan of Adam Lambert?
