California Dance Institute (CDI) is an in-school and after-school non-profit arts education program that teaches life and learning skills through dance and music. CDI instills confidence, discipline and focus through the rigor and joy of dance i a very carefully crafted dance program that engages the children’s minds as well as their bodies. All children can do it and do it well. The children experience the joy of doing something really well. The program is an affiliate of Jacques d’Amboise’s renowned National Dance Institute. CDI currently serves 1500 children in 10 schools in the Los Angeles area with specially designed dance and music classes taught by professional artists trained in a clear methodology that achieves results that help all children thrive. We provide the children with a joyous experience that exercises their minds and spirits as well as their bodies. We are currently seeking a Managing Director.

The Managing Director, a member of the executive staff, supports all non-artistic aspects of the CDI program, leading, assisting in and overseeing designated areas. There is room for real growth for the organization and within the organization.

Fundraising:
The Mananging Director
§ Assists in developing of and then implements annual operating plan with Artistic Director and Board.
§ Drives process for the acquisition and renewal of foundation resources, from identification through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship cycles.
§ Writes grants.
§ Works with Artistic Director to obtain knowledge of individual donors and strategies for on-going identification and stewardship of individual donors.
§ Plans and executes Annual Fund Campaign with Board.
§ Sets goals and timelines to ensure fundraising success for special events, including the Gala benefit, Event of the Year, and cultivation parties.
§ Supervises the Administrative Associate in database management, donor acknowledgments, website and public relations
§ Supervises grant assistant in research, writing, submissions, tracking and compliance reporting.

Board Relations:
Works with the Artistic Director and Board recruitment committee to
§ co-manage the ongoing identification, cultivation and recruitment of board members
§ help drive the process for successful board engagement, including fundraising and advocacy responsibilities.
§ Supports board decision-making with financial reports and planning materials. Plans and schedules regular and special meetings as directed and/or appropriate.

Public and Community Relations:
§ Serves as CDI representative to various constituencies
§ Is a public voice and advocate for CDI and the Artistic Director.
§ Guides the marketing of CDI’s programs to the public.
§ Cultivates new opportunities to present CDI to a broader public.
§ Explores collaborations with like-minded organizations.

Administration:
§ Develops annual budget for review with Artistic Director and Board Treasurer and Chair.
§ Serves as organizational financial officer, ensuring budget compliance throughout fiscal year.
§ Approves all project budgets, contracts, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
§ Manages Development Assistant, Administrative Assistant, Bookkeeper and Webmaster in execution of responsibilities.
§ Oversees human resources.

Qualifications:
The candidate must be well-spoken, comfortable making public presentations and knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the arts and education. He or she must be able to analyze and adapt to situations with funders, donors, school administration, community leaders and staff. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience in dealing with funders, community leaders, and personalities of note is desirable. Knowledge of the workings of non-profit and fund-raising. Experience in dealing with school administration is a plus.
Additional qualifications:
§ Demonstrated executive management-level success in organizational assessment, development and strategic planning in a not-for-profit environment preferable.
§ Bachelor’s degree
§ Finance and budget experience.
§ A passion for the arts and an appreciation for the transformative possibility the arts can play in cognitive development and education
§ Working knowledge of organizational systems, internal controls, and standards of excellence to include knowledge of a not-for-profit financial systems and procedures.
§ Excellent facilitation and communication capability.
§ Experience with not-for-profit fundraising and development including much-needed donor cultivation.
§ Experience with board development.
§ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
§ Familiarity with data-base management program such as SalesForce a plus

Staff Managed:
Grants Associate, Administrative Associate, ¼ Program Coordinator

Salary: $40,000 annual, 30-40 hours a week.
