"A secular grace I wrote for nonbelievers to recite on Thanksgiving 2015:
First, let us be thankful for the gift of health, without which riches are but as sand.
Let us be thankful for this planet’s capacity to sustain life and bring forth the plants and animals that provide the nourishment we enjoy here today.
Let us be thankful for all the people whose labor helped bring these foods to our table.
Let us be thankful for the benefits of science that allow us to live in far greater comfort than generations past, and to cook with ease and convenience.
Let us be thankful for the ability to live in an enlightened society that tolerates dissent and accepts differing viewpoints.
Let us remember that there are people around the world and in our communities who do not enjoy the comforts that we have. Let us not forget that our ancestors were strangers in this land who faced prejudice and resentment. Let us not harden our hearts against those who have come here seeking a better life for their families.
Finally, let us be thankful that we can all be here together to enjoy a festive meal, as we recall that the best things in life cannot be fully enjoyed unless they are shared". ~ Richard Schloss
