Assistant Professor of Philosophy



The Department of Philosophy & Religion within the College of Arts and Letters at The University of Tampa invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Philosophy beginning in August 2017.



The University of Tampa is a medium-sized comprehensive, private university that delivers challenging and high-quality educational experiences to a diverse group of learners. The University offers more than 200 areas of study, including majors in our colleges of Arts and Letters, Business, Natural andHealth Sciences and Social Sciences, Math and Education and 12 master's programs.



Teaching load is 3 courses (12 credit hours) per semester. The area of specialization (AOS) is FEMINIST PHILOSOPHY, BROADLY CONSTRUED. The area of concentration (AOC) is OPEN, but the successful candidate must be able to teach an undergraduate Modern Philosophy course (i.e., 17th and 18th century European philosophy from Descartes through Kant) as well as a variety of other undergraduate philosophy courses, including courses in at least some of the following areas: philosophy of mind, philosophy of science, environmental philosophy, metaphysics & epistemology, applied ethics, ethics, logic, philosophy of race/Africana philosophy, philosophy of art/aesthetics, and philosophy of film.

Ph.D. in Philosophy must be in hand no later than August 15, 2017. Teaching experience is preferred.



The successful candidate will have a broad background in philosophy, will be committed to excellent undergraduate teaching, and will maintain an active record of scholarship through publications. Other responsibilities include developing and managing ongoing outcomes assessment procedures, student advising, curriculum development, serving as advisor to an undergraduate philosophy club, and service to the department, college, university, and broader community.



The Department of Philosophy & Religion has three full time faculty members and offers a B.A. degree in Philosophy and a minor. Its many activities include the preparation and coaching of a successful Ethics College Bowl team and an active Philosophy Club.
