US DATA: Initial unemployment claims -3k to 258k in Oct 22 week vs 255k expected. There were no special factors cited and no state claims were estimated. The 4-week moving average +1,000 to 253,000 and could rise further next week, but the average remains near historically low levels. Unadjusted claims +2,389 in the Oct 22 post-holiday week, a smaller increase than seasonal factors expected. Claims rose in 33 states/territories and fell in 20 states/territories. Continuing claims -15,000 to 2.039m in Oct 15 employment survey week, the lowest level since the June 24, 2000 week and down 25,000 from the 2.064 million level in the Sept 17 employment survey week.
