Orders ex. transport +0.2% in Sept, a third straight increase, on gains in machinery and electrical equipment, offset by declines elsewhere. Boeing had reported a partial rebound in its orders, which translated into an 12.5% rise in nondef aircraft orders. Motor vehicles orders +1.2%, but defense aircraft orders -44.8% and the unlisted transporation components were flat according to an MNI calculation. Nondefense capital goods new orders were +1.5%, but -1.2% ex. aircraft. Dur shipments +0.8%, with nondef cap gds shipments +2.2% and +0.3% ex. air. Durable inventories +0.1%, unfilled orders -0.4%.
