Some Streaming Facts

I saw a tweet a few days ago that had, what the person thought, was the correct equivalent units that will equal a sale, for Billboard. I meant to reply then, (because she was way off on all 3 accounts) but I wasn't at home when I read it, and forgot when I got home. Anyway, here are the facts, as of this minute.

This is the policy as of May 2018.
"The Billboard 200 will now include two tiers of on-demand audio streams. TIER 1: paid subscription audio streams (equating 1,250 streams to 1 album unit) and TIER 2: ad-supported audio streams (equating 3,750 streams to 1 album unit)…the Billboard 200 will continue to not incorporate video streams."
And for singles, for Hot 100: “[The chart] will have multiple weighted tiers of streaming plays for the Hot 100, which take into account paid subscription streams (representing a full point value per play), ad-supported streams (representing a 2/3-point value per play) and programmed streams (representing a 1/2-point value per play)." The formula is 150 streams equal 1 sale of a single.

Have to admit, I knew the subscription streams had more weight, but I did not realize the free streams were weighted so low. OFC, previously, I think the free streams did not count at all.
The biggest news to me was that BB does NOT COUNT VIDEO STREAMS AT ALL! So, what does that mean. Stop viewing the video? NO! Because radio and streaming services will notice high video views. So do not stop viewing the video!

Bottom line is 1) Paid subscription streaming is better. 2) Free streaming does count though. So do it, if that's all you can do, and do it as much as possible. 3) Try to fit a few views a day in of the music video. Because it counts for the artist's $$. Radio and streaming services will notice high view counts. Do not do a playlist for videos though. YT wants organic views.

I really think the fanbase is doing a great job for Velvet and Superpower. We are not as big as we used to be & the streaming count, first week, was respectable! Radio is starting to play the single, so now is the time to stream more, not less! Make casual fans notice these songs! #SUPERPOWER
