113. Babae At Baril (2019)
Rating: 9.5

First of all, WOW.

It’s not everyday that I get to watch films like this - international or local. Before I get to the technicals, I just want to commend the whole cast and prod. The casting was amazing. Everyone was perfect for their roles. This is some God-tier acting I haven’t seen in a while. This film reminds me of On The Job on such a level that it tackled a lot of societal, class, patriarchal, feminist issues and more. It perfectly depicted how each characters’ lives were so different but also relatively the same with the issues and struggles they go through. The writing, script and directing was so good! I loved that they chose an unconvential style of narrative for the plot/storyline. It made me think that the main protagonist here is probably the gun more than the girl and that the characters are the ones revolving around the gun (w/c is ironic bec the gun was a revolver). Editing, color grading and cinematography was so good! It depicted a very familiar Manila vibe which we all can relate to. This definitely is my bet for Best Picture, Directing & Editing in Gawad Urian so far.
