118. Violator (2014)
Rating: 9.4

Easily, one of the most memorable indie films that I’ve watched. As much as I want to talk about the brilliantly done cinematography and the very strategically and stylish techniques the director and the dop created for this, I was more impressed by the depth of each character. Although, some might be confused by the connections of the events and characters, they all have a common theme: the demon in all of us. The first thing I remembered was Na Hongjin’s The Wailing (2016). I watched it first before this and I can totally see some resemblance especially in the ending scenes. As much as I want to break down each character and their ‘demon’, I’d gladly leave that up to your own interpretations and analyses for you to watch the film and discuss it with your friends and family. At the end of the day, the question that the film left us asking is “Was there really a demon in the story or was it just the demon in all of us?” Great debut film from the director.
