Ma Rosa (2016)
Rating: 9.2

I would give this a 10 if I base my rating solely on how it made me feel. It didn’t feel like a movie to me. It felt more like a documentary of a real family. The camera work was so cinematically dynamic that it takes you there in the location with them. You feel like you are in the film. It’s the hand-held camera technique and character POV that makes you feel all the emotions that the characters also feel especially the anxiety and fear. The theme of this film is deeply rooted from very realistic themes of corruption, drugs, and poverty - real events that are happening in the society. There are only a few movies that can make me feel ways and it was because all aspects hit the right marks - from the directing, the no-acting acting, cinematography, mood and tone to the score. It was brilliantly done. Jaclyn Jose deserved that best actress award in Cannes but honestly, all the actors did great.
